LSIC Alum Grace Brier (GWU, '16) and Moses Cook Take Top Prize at Estrella Mock Trial Competition | DCLAW Students

Congratulations to LSIC alumna Grace Brier (’16 GWU, Civil) and fellow GWU law students Arslan Sheikh, Daniel Causey, and Amanda Danforth for taking first place in the fifth annual Estrella Mock Trial Competition held April 1-2 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The team was coached by GWU Law adjunct professor Moses Cook, Executive Director of Law Students in Court.  Moses led the team to the semi-finals last year in his first year coaching this competition, and this year seized the crown.

Remarked Cook, “It’s always a thrill to win but even sweeter to observe the confidence and experience gained by our advocacy teams. Indeed, their futures are bright!”

Each year, 14 teams from around the country compete, and it has been previously won by UCLA and Berkeley.  This year, the final four were American, GW, UCLA and UVA. All participating teams have the opportunity to argue a civil case before local attorneys and judges, and receive significant feedback from judges after each round. Each student plays the role of an attorney on one side and a witness on the other. The Estrella Mock Trial Competition is hosted by Alberto Estrella, an alum of GW Law School, who jointly created the competition with GW five years ago. Read more here.
